BADLY or WRONG TREATED TIMBER BEING SOLD. This month we have (1) projects to replace "treated" pine supplied by others. The customer had to pull up a whole deck and replace it.! Lucky they hadn't paid for it all. Is this why the 'other' price is cheaper ?. See below
MERBAU PRICE RISE THROUGH THE ROOF but SOON TO FALL ?? The cost dictates that it will fall but availability says it may rise. Our select grade treated pine is an alternative at half the price.
"REVERSIBLE" DECKING. If you are considering using "reversible" treated pine decking, smooth on all sides- think again. Decking is grooved for a reason. Contact us if in doubt.
GST INCLUDED?. Don't be fooled on GST . If you receive an alternative written quote and GST is added at the bottom, check that the line price ALSO includes GST. Some retailers will quote WITHOUT GST.
Buying timber at Auction ??
Auction sites regularly sell reject timber. Even if branded or
advertised as treated, Auction timber may have been rejected because of
treatment quality and will probably fail.REJECT TIMBER-We regularly check our timber treatment and grade and even if if that timber is branded to Australian Standards but which were not up to our standard it will be rejected. Will other suppliers do the same?? Do other suppliers know when timber is not treated / Can they test it ? Do they care ?
WHAT TREATMENT? Dont just ask for TREATED PINE from your builder or "dont know" Hardware store. If you use Treated Timber outdoors (even for a handrail under an awning) you need H3 (or H4 ) treatment. If it is only H2 treated IT WILL ROT even if painted. H2 (or T2) is treated for Termites ONLY. If it is BLUE painted the timber is possibly framing timber H2 . Check the end tag.
F7 or F5 (MGP10)?? If using timber for structural purposes (Decks etc) you should use caution if using F5 branded timber. You may find that F5 and MGP 10 timber will not satisfy the same span as F7 and you may need to use a larger size. Particularly check if the timber is from New Zealand. We consider NZ timber to be structually inferior to our Australian timber.
Unless clearly indicated by us, all the log factory rougher headed/laser cut timber is the higher F7.
